What Are Disposable Cartridges?

A dispo cart is a cartridge that pairs with a battery base to vaporize cannabis oil. The oil is heated to low temperatures in a vaporizer, creating cool inhalable mist that enters the lungs and delivers THC directly into the bloodstream. Unlike traditional flower or edibles, carts are discreet and work super fast – you can experience an instant high from a single inhalation.

Carts come in a range of shapes, sizes and rechargeable options to match users’ preferences. Most are threaded to fit any CCELL battery. Some have a temperature control feature so you can customize the heat of your oil. Others are all-in-one units that include the cartridge, battery and mouthpiece in a single device that can be discarded when it’s empty.

Most cartridges contain distillate oil, a pure form of THC dispo carts extracted through a chemical process that removes everything except the targeted cannabinoid. The downside to this is that some of the original cannabinoid and terpene profile is lost along with a lot of flavor. Some extract manufacturers add terpenes back into the oil to recreate the original flavor or create a new one. Full-spectrum carts are for users who prefer a more complex and balanced profile of cannabinoids and terpenes. Nova live resin cartridges are a great example of this type of cartridge.

You can also find cartridges that use wax or shatter instead of distillate. Wax and shatter are a bit thicker than oil, and require a higher temperature to vaporize. A 0.5g dab cart will typically last about 50 three-second pulls. Increasingly, brands are branching out beyond distillate to produce carts with other forms of cannabis extract like live resin, hash rosin and rosin. Timeless’ Noir carts, for instance, are made from flash frozen fresh flower that’s then extracted to preserve more of the original strain flavor than is possible through distillation alone.
